Today I was volunteering at a post office. A man in an old jacket with uncombed hair came to the counter. He had a wallet in his hand, and put it on the counter. He told me: " n {4 J5 i% w' }* Z8 H1 h
"I am going to send it back".
" v% g0 x$ B C# J& |- `+ r( PI did not understand what he meant by "it", because usually people would send a letter or a parcel back to the sender, and I did not see he had any of those. So I asked him:
/ P0 p' a' u! }4 e "I am sorry, what are you sending back?" : |; v& j3 D, o
He said, "the Wallet, I am sending back the wallet." Then he added: "I am going to pay the postage." 9 _, ^' U) ~$ ]4 \' f* b" L
"Oh, you found a wallet, and you are going to send it back to the person who lost it?"
6 g6 _/ s7 P+ v. c& @+ _+ u"Yes, I did."* Z+ I: Z! U& i0 X9 A0 i# H; y
Finally I understood: this dishevelled man found a wallet, and he was going to return it to the owner by post. ) e6 X6 e/ ]& g7 Y! g
He took the ID card from the wallet, and showed me the address of the loser of the wallet. I saw there were several one-hundred bills in the wallet. ( o% `' f+ S' G9 R6 x
"Are you going to take some money from the wallet to pay the postage?"+ J) r+ F7 Z. ]! d
"No, I am not. I do not do those things."$ g5 i: ]2 n$ E# t7 [
He took out his wallet, which was nearly worn-out, small, and almost empty. There were some coins inside. : d. @0 D2 H7 n3 I' p# H, ~
I gave him a bubbled envelope, and instructed him where to write the addresses. He wrote the owner's address, but stopped at writing a return address. He asked:% [& v+ G) a) P: Q& y
"Is it okay that I do not write this part?": ]$ |* {/ A# e9 n; W
"Yes, you may." I thought he must want to be a nameless hero. But he said:, T# m2 I6 u" \7 q2 K, H( t
"I do not have an address."( }5 }8 M1 t X! S
I was surprised: "oh, where do you live?"

My heart had a sudden jump. I realized that this is a homeless man who found money but was sending it back to the person who lost it.
