! n# w; H1 z( N* l ^Our government recognizes that the Internet and digital technologies are, h; L' k. h# j4 e, E
an increasingly important part of everyday life—including driving
0 X( x. P; Z5 M9 h9 U% Ninnovation, commerce and social interaction. As the government develops& \2 e* k% H2 {
Canada’s first comprehensive Digital Economy Strategy, we need to look
# s: c- }9 [+ c& [' Y1 Dcarefully at how issues like UBB affect the big picture. We will be( K0 o8 L5 v5 G0 m C" y" Q+ e/ F
guided by our long-standing policies of encouraging competition and! @- u+ _( R4 g3 l3 a
investment, increasing consumer choice, minimizing regulation and allowing
' I) s: ^- H8 E% y8 U( bmarket forces to prevail. 0 x8 }. E$ H: z n
* H: `& O) m8 F+ kThe Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) has/ r% t' }* {$ `! Z9 J) n
chosen to examine these concerns that the government shares with a large

government will carefully assess the CRTC position to ensure that it is in

competition among internet service providers. I will be recommending that
* g& N" V0 j G: s, H" \( [+ eany decision counter to these foundational principles be reversed.* \/ S4 n, Y0 H# w" p Z
