Less than 24 hours from now, we’re going to be at an historic event… one of those seminal moments when things change forever. By attending the Mother-of-All Power Line Meetings at Rexall Place on November 24th at 7:00 p.m. you will be casting your vote to change how we look at electricity transmission for good. How big are they?

The proposed Heartland Transmission project will be a dual circuit, 500kV transmission line and, according to data provided by AESO (Alberta Electric System Operator), the towers that would be used would be up to 60 metres tall – that’s nearly 200′ or about the height of a 20 storey building – and about 46 metres wide (150′).

To show you what these towers would look like we have mocked up 4 scenarios, showing the transmission towers to scale.
1. Westboro

This is what the towers would look like as you come in to the Westboro subdivision (just north of Wye Road, north of Village on the Lake on the east side of Sherwood Park). The photo was taken approximately 175m east of Broadmore and assumes the towers would be run along the green belt between Highway 216 and Sherwood Park (the so called TUC). It shows that the transmission lines will still be clearly visible over 800m away.

2. West TUC

This is what the towers would look just west of Michael A. Kostek School at around 190th Street and 53rd Avenue. Note that the towers will be closer to the houses than the old 240kV line shown behind these new beauties.

3. Ellerslie

This is what the towers would look like if they were run along the Anthony Henday near Ellerslie. The photo is taken at 5th Avenue SW and 79th Street, about 600m back from the back row of houses. Note that these towers dwarf the existing towers.

4. Fountain Creek

This is what the towers would look like as you come in to Fountain Creek phase 2 (just south of Balmoral, south of Wye road on the east side of Sherwood Park). Again, it assumes the towers are being run along the greenbelt that separates the subdivision and Highway 216 (the so called TUC). The view is along the “dry pond” between the houses approximately 750m away from the towers.

5. Rural East and West Routes

We’re still working on these, but trust me, they really stick out like a sore thumb when they’re run near acreages and environmentally sensitive areas!

明白了，红线是规划中的高当量电力传输线，听新闻说，东边和西边二选一
