The difference between accounts

Margin account is used for long position, (e.g. buy first, then sell), the advantage of using margin is that you have leverage so that you can multiple your profit, but it's risky. The short account is especially used for you to do short sale. Short sale is the opposite of normal trade, you should sell first wihout holding that stock, then buy back to cover your position at later time. Short sale is profitable and suitable when the stock price goes down. But it's risky also.

Not necessary

老杨团队 追求完美
Don't be so careful, although you open a margin account, it's not necessary for you to borrow money from broker. In this case, the margin account is exactctly same as cash account. But with margin account, you can trade call option, put option, so, it can bring you more flexibility. So, I suggest you to open margin account instead of cash account, because it has all the function of cash account and it can bring more function and benefit for you.

You'd better open a registered Tax Free Saving Account(TFSA). Every cent you earn from this account is tax free. This is one difference between TFSA and cash account. Another is that you can only contribute $5,000/yr to TFSA.
