WASHINGTON - In a stunning vote that shocked the capital and worldwide markets, the House of Representatives on Monday defeated a US$700 billion emergency rescue for the U.S. financial system.

The House ignored urgent warnings from President George W. Bush and congressional leaders of both parties that the economy could nosedive without the bailout.   ^( a, N9 e3 v7 N

! l" X4 m) L( W1 O$ {8 e! BStocks plummeted on Wall Street even before the 228-205 vote to reject the bill was officially announced on the House floor.

( M$ K, C+ X" l5 e/ iAs a digital screen in the House chamber recorded a cascade of "no" votes against the bailout, Democratic Representative Joe Crowley of New York shouted news of the falling Dow Jones industrials. "Six hundred points!" he yelled, jabbing his thumb downward. The decline was about 600 points shortly before the close of the trading day. $ d! `$ j# _/ j% C+ ~1 \4 m

Bush and a host of leading congressional figures had implored the legislators to pass the legislation despite howls of protest from their constituents back home. Not enough members were willing to take the political risk just five weeks before an election. 6 F: H* d6 S# a- k

The overriding question for congressional leaders was what to do next. Congress has been trying to adjourn so that its members can go out and campaign.

"I'm disappointed in the vote by the United Sates Congress on the economic recovery plan," Bush told reporters later during a picture-taking session with the president of Ukraine. Monday's mind-numbing vote had been preceded by unusually aggressive White House lobbying, and Fratto said that Bush had used a "call list" of people he wanted to persuade to vote Yes as late as just a short time before the vote. 6 z% z2 a% K% M* R# J1 P  j

The drawn-out and tense call of the roll dragged on for roughly 40 minutes as leaders on both sides scrambled to corral enough of their rank-and-file members to support the deeply unpopular measure. They found only two.

% I" D' d2 C% u2 SBush and his economic advisers, as well as congressional leaders in both parties had argued the plan was vital to insulating ordinary Americans from the effects of Wall Street's bad bets.

更大的利空--美国国会上星期通过法案,禁止进口亚省“脏油”。9 [1 Q8 Z$ g1 k0 e# p
亚省应对方案是寻求别的愿意接受油沙油的国家,但是,近几年好像无法实现。

因为什么是像样的房子由他定义,所以正说反说都是他的理。其实,也许他当时像样的房子指的是当时40万的房子,可是现在他可以解释成50万的房子。

真见识了专家的高论。
4 B5 Z6 J1 X/ ?8 E3 c; f去年同类50万以上的旧房子现在大概降了10w,新房官方统计是降5%以上。

顺便说一下,这个7000亿的救市计划会在这周四从新提交审议,WALL STREET的分析认为,在经过两党首脑的劝说后,从新通过的问题不大,毕竟这个提案本身也需要从新完善和综合各方的意见。

美股狂跌777,加股好象也700多点没了(整个9月估计少了2000点),你说这赚钱的多还是赔钱的多?; q( Z. y: B( T2 Z' A7 P. ^2 z
