7 [0 @# _& a# T. ]

Xiaoli Tang, a PhD student from the University of Utah, ended her life by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge on Oct. 1, 2017. It was her ninth year in the Ph.D. program at the university before she committed suicide. Although she had published 7 journal articles, she saw no hope of graduation. She was remembered by her department as “bright, talented, and eager to make an impact on the world… had an impressive research record in biophysics and biochemistry, and was an avid participant and award winner in our Student Research Symposium.” The question is: how a promising student CANNOT graduate from her program after 9 years of intensive study and research?

It is difficult to make a change, especially to change the status quo of many bright talented students cannot graduate. However, if I want to change it, you want to change it, and many people want to change it, we can! Please help to make a change!
