one thing need to point out is that 30% is your total liability not for your mortgage only.

V4 L& F; l1 W" Rusing following mortgage affordability calculator you can see for a 60K yearly income, assume there is no other debt, the mortgage he can borrow is around 200k (using 5.5% interest rate, and 30 years time limit), assume the buyer has 100k down payment (100k is a lot of money at least to myself), he can purchase a house worth 300k.

keep in mind this limit is how much bank is willing to lend you, it doesn't necessary translate into how comfortable you will be living under such condition. in my personal opinion, the total debt ratio should not exceed 20% to ensure a balanced life style, that can endure certain financial storm that will popup once in a while in your life time. |
