Need Advice!

Sorry that I can't type Chinese at the moment.

I will be relocating to Edmonton for a new job opportunity in the next month or so, and would like to hear some advice from our fellow countrymen regarding housing.

I am considering the following factors for the purchase
*SAFE!!! Must be in a safe neighbourhood
*Within 30mins drive to Oliver in rush hours, and 15mins to West mall
*around 400k
*resale value after 5 years?  My current plan is to stay for 5 years.
*Bonus: Close to big Chinese supermarkets and restaurants

With the factors listed above, is it better to purchase old house in a mature neighbourhood or a new house on the outskirts?

Can anyone recommend neighbourhoods that I should focus on searching?  Any help and advice is appreciated, thanks a lot!

What is your definition of SAFE? Everyone seems to rate SAFE differently. People who live in the downtown do not view it as an UNSAFE area at all even not all other people would agree. In Edmonton, any communities considered as SAFER will not lie within the 30 minutes to Oliver and 15 minutes to West Mall driving time range during rush hours, IMHO. However, Edmonton is still a safer place to live.

第10区（Crestwood，Parkview和Laurier Heights）和11区（Glenora）的二手房是不错的选择。
价格40万左右的房子会是比较旧的。但区好，学校好，升值潜力好。5年后的价格应该在50万以上。但这点没有人能Garantee你。

Thanks. I haven't get to talk to a realtor, since I haven't arrived yet. I did some research myself and the areas you suggested are definitely great choices, but probably won't be able to find something that is move-in ready with 400k?

I assume in your opinion, in means of return of value after 5 years, it is a safer bet to purchase a old property in an established area than a newer house by the outer ring roads?

this house is in a very safe area. 15 minutes walking to Superstore and new opening Luck market. 5 minutes driving to North gate T&T. 15 minutes driving to Oliver and <25 minutes driving to West Mall.

How about 22区的 Jasper park and 20 区的Aldergrove
Does 22区的( Jasper park )have a very good school (G1-9).

好区大都在南边，西南。按楼主的要求，显然不能住南边了。
