# e- k$ n; P5 [Currently, there are two main issues for many Chinese Electricians working in Alberta.

. Z( n# [: f$ |& B9 ]First, all new Chinese Electricians, no matter with rich experience or not, have a difficult time to join IBEW 424.

I believe all Chinese Electricians could be the best electricians in IBEW.

Most of us have no problem to pass the exam, and will be no problem at all on the filed after working more than one year or two.

So, why do our fellow Chinese electricians have difficult time working in Alberta right now?  I believe the main cause is not just the language, is that more and more of new coming electricians without Canadian apprenticeship experience are working on the field, do not know how to use "Canadian Tools correctly", which make us all like "fake" electricians.2 x! I, Q, G) [; J  w' o, T! ]

I strongly agree with some of our fellow electricians' suggestions that: Give a basic On-Tool Training for every Chinese electrician before joining IBEW. Like PHD gives a training for the exam, we give a on-tool training.

I personally recommend CEAC to help orgnize on-tool trainings for every new Chinese Electrician or any Chinese person who like to be a future electrician. And I hope all experience Chinese electricias like 无线马达 and tcar386o share their skills with each other.1 G/ @7 P5 T# J" O

Why training only for new electricians, not all electricians? 8 C/ V* J! N$ A/ `+ \. Q$ j& _$ ?

1 L+ b/ a0 D$ w9 g0 }Most of "old Chinese electricians” having been work on the Oil Sands for one year or two, whether they are currently in IBEW or not,  are much better than average local Electricians with many years experience in Canada.
' }! f, b' h9 [+ E' ?1 v+ a
% t) S% r/ A+ a6 yWhy does this happen?
9 s- H# o! S- [. N1. They work extremely harder than local electricians and didicate to their jobs because they know it is not easy to get a decent job in Canada to support their family, and especially the situation like now, put all the Chinese electricians in a difficult time and every body is worried about lay-off at first couple days of job site and many...
! e/ m$ i+ [5 d; S: v! b" U4 X0 k4 H' R! U, P, G2 T' t
2. They are willing to learn and are all fast learners. Their knowledge needed for the electrician job is more than local electricians. Almost 100% of Chinese electricians have university degrees including many with electrical engineering background. So they can understand electrical circuits, grounding systems and single diagrams…..for sure the safety rules as well, much easier than people with less educated.
/ a# Y6 C* A: J0 C2 g/ b
& t9 `4 s8 D+ V, ^; b3. Most important is: Many of Chinese electricians here, though do not have same apprenticeship program like in Canada, do have many years ON-TOOL experience in China when they were working as engineers or technician in China. (I will discuss later)
: ?: U! z/ O4 O' K" t) V
/ k& P" Z$ W: n/ \6 @+ ^9 \" S+ VSo I do not think the old Chinese electricians are no longer need help from CEAC, in contraversion, they could share their Canadian experience and skills here with new comers./ u+ E2 _; P1 f6 F* ^

% K9 R( e- q2 y; ]2 QThat is what I believe:. `9 `, |: m+ |. z) M

+ L# |/ ]5 g8 X$ k* IFor those Chinese electricians having electrical engineering background and doing well in the field so far, will be the best electricians in the team just in the near future.
# r. Z' A1 l) _4 Y4 j' P" X. I5 ^$ d& a2 R, I+ x
For those Chinese electricians without electrical engineering background will keep up "under the pressure" and will get better and better if they want to be best electricians.
+ ]+ p2 D5 K  S- M& y
9 o8 z& z% X  ?. D- k$ oOnly for new Chinese electricians and “will-be” electricians need on-tools training before they start doing electrical job in Canada. 5 J8 P$ l9 v. J! Y

Why only Basic On-Tool Training needed for new electricians?
8 a: W' P& O" b
* A6 m2 I$ ^1 Y1 j9 SGenerally, a Chinese immigrant who wants to work as an electrician in Canada lacks following skills:
( F5 W0 n" D& {8 Y
$ P0 o  U! ]: ^  F3 x8 Y# v+ I) ]* }Language skills' H. c1 l, ]1 U. H5 \
Canadian Electrical Code including safety standards
: V, q% @4 d+ E' y" J" R* HCanadian working experience including On-Tools skills
( o# L6 B# W; @, m) V* C5 C0 Z
+ y0 _5 d% v+ m9 h0 \7 @( [Language skills:3 _/ }. y0 O) H$ N; A8 U1 r, Z8 i
5 M6 x# L* Y8 Q3 d
For most of immigrants, they went through IELTS tests and already have basic language skills to work in Canada. The only thing they needed to start electrical trade is to focus on learning new words about the names of the tools and materials…
3 g" ?; d9 \& v9 G% N" X: ]3 L6 m0 o* N2 }/ K
No need to speed months in school for language training only when you can offer the time and money. Sure, language training will help or speed up his success in the workshop.
5 L9 J. E# k: _! E9 n# i: B6 u) r; ?; c& e$ \% O
Canadian Electrical Code:
% F0 Q( j( b" J# q  w
+ x1 k0 p" @% q5 I5 j& C6 `Everybody has to go through the Code test and there are lots of training centers around Alberta. Almost everyone can pass the test easily.
& B8 u7 c: b/ m0 O% ?+ e- j5 c
6 ?+ b' g5 C) F4 g8 j( X6 wThe only thing I would like to mention the Safety Standards here. Canada has much higher standard than in China.  Try to start any job exactly as the code said will be a great help.$ L; n0 U3 ~+ W0 t4 N; r$ G* ?& u# C

+ J/ i4 V- h# e" c  P8 a% YCanadian Experience:
: N9 F" {. i  ~# r. z8 k9 v# `: q" e+ ?2 Z3 `5 r2 t! D3 M7 M
This is a big headache for every immigrant. It is hard to find a job if you do not have Canadian experience; if you do not have a job, you will never have Canadian experience…
, u5 ]' Y# g% Y, O8 e; r% g2 U
1 v9 V# j# J. ^One needs to find somewhere to get a start.
! m3 s. }6 t% l" c4 {2 t# s  n0 R4 \9 P$ Y" i1 ~+ Z
So my suggestion is:2 c4 {! Y- q- [5 l+ K* p' X
- {( i2 z" f3 `/ A: z
CEAC sets up own company and a training center to give all Chinese new electricians for On-Tools trainings and let them gain Canadian experience. 9 b, O( r. [, }- ?9 [. a( G0 ?) P: J' S

8 O" x7 `3 G) q' V/ HI will be the best if I want to be the best
