Nexen cheaps out on Alberta spending

TORONTO (CNS) - Calgary-based Nexen Inc. has carried through on warnings it would cut spending in Alberta, unveiling a reduced capital spending plan for next year.

; J3 C& u/ S# v% VCanada's fourth-largest energy explorer said it would spend $2.4 billion next year, compared with $3.6 billion in 2007. It said it would cut expenditures at its coalbed methane project at Fort Assiniboine, Alta., in light of a newly announced royalty structure that province.
