MacEwan University’s School of Business, Institute of Asia Pacific Studies, is hosting Dr. Feng Lianyong, a professor of the School of Business Administration at China University of Petroleum, Beijing. With the recent record setting $15.1 Billion acquisition of Nexen Inc. by China National Offshore Oil Corporation Limited (CNOOC Limited), Chinese investment in Alberta oil sands is very topical. As a Chinese scholar, Dr. Feng will present a third party academic perspective on the importance of market diversification of Alberta oil for the Canadian economy and society. His talk will cover some of the processes and issues related to achieving this diversification, including pipelines, environmental concerns, First Nations partners, and intergovernmental relations. This presentation will present a Chinese perspective on the oil industry in Canada and the Canadian governments FDI policy. It will also suggest alternatives growth models for the oil industry that can be achieved by partnering with investors from developing countries.
