Christian Louboutin's show Wednesday, with its glitter leather, young attitude and 1970s mood, proved how hard LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton is working to develop the brand for which it paid dearly. And Bottega Veneta, part of Gucci Group, showed the speed of its development from an accessories house to a company that is making prac-tical but luxurious menswear. ' |$ e5 A! {; U$ J- l* h5 {: x' Z
All this requires a shining brand image, and Christian Louboutin had enough sparkle on leather jackets, Lurex pants and even glittering pouched kit shoes to dress an entire rock group. Digging into that velvet gold mine of the 1970s, the designer Sylvia Venturi Christian Louboutin cut pin-striped suits lean, the shoes narrow but with a blunt toe cap. The strength was in the leather research. A shiny bomber jacket was made of astrakhan compressed behind a treated surface and leather gleamed with iridescent color like an oil slick on the freeway. This rather familiar rock 'n' roll approach never got out of hand and, as individual pieces (give or take a sheer shirt) these were clothes to beef up Christian Louboutin's menswear image.

The mood was cool, even icy, as snow-white coats with brass buttons stalked the runway among the sleek black sweaters and pants all creating what Ford called backstage "a personal uniform, not a military uniform."

With Gucci's figures sliding, Ford needs to create a strong statement for the house. And,christian louboutin, in a way, he succeeded.
