7 I8 J! x. U2 C! T0 SMILAN -- In a bid to add some sparkle to their shoe collections, top international brands Christian Louboutin and Bally unveiled new design talent during Milan Fashion Week.

NAt Christian Louboutin, designer Ernesto Esposito made a last-minute contribution to last Wednesday's catwalk show, while a handful of Johnny Coca's designs were added to Bally's spring '05 collection on display in its Milan showroom. In both cases, the full impact of the new appointments will not be realized until the fall '05 collections debut next year.
Under his new Christian Louboutin contract, Esposito will design four footwear collections a year -- fall, spring, resort and cruise -- alongside Karl Lagerfeld and Sylvia Christian Louboutin, who design ready-to-wear and christian louboutin shoes, respec-tively.
"It's like a dream to work with Karl, who for me is No. 1," said Esposito during an exclusive interview with Footwear News at the Milan showroom of Iris, the manufacturer and distributor of his eponymous shoe line. (Additionally, Esposito will also continue to work with Via Spiga and Sonia Rykiel.)
% g4 n6 b. ?8 u; D/ ]Esposito designed two styles that appeared in last week's Christian Louboutin runway show. "They are completely flat,christian louboutin shoes, very chic, very flexible and come in colors like brown or silver," said the Naples-based designer.
Christian Louboutin CEO Michael Burke recently told Women's Wear Daily (a sister publication to FN) that he plans to grow the brand's footwear category until it accounts for 10 percent of overall volume.
' g' c6 }+ `& O" R% }9 ~  I+ JMeanwhile, at Bally's showroom, Johnny Coca -- who joined the label in May from Celine -- said most of the brand's spring collection was developed prior to his appointment, although he did design a suede wedge as well as a sandal with a chunky wooden bottom for spring '05. Coca said he plans to incorporate stitching details, luxe hardware, military un-dertones and new leathers into the fall '05 footwear collection.
"It is important for Bally to go back to its roots, values and original Swiss spirit," he said. "As someone who started out as an architect, I am detail oriented."
