If you dont care if it's purebred or not, you can adopt one from SPCA, Petcetera, or Petsmart, where they have new-born or very young puppies occasionally, and adult dogs anytime. Adoption fee will be around $200 including the spay/neuter surgery fee and the vaccination. This is the most economic way and helpful for those poor animals.

Otherwise, you are recommended to find a responsible breeder in the adjacent area, which is more reliable than buying from kijiji or other personals. The price will be of just a little bit different or even the same. But you can get much more from responsible breeders, such as health guarantee, vaccinnation shots, pedigree certificates, CKC registration,...and so on.

Anyway, think more about your own responsibility...A dog's life is as long as 10-15 years. Have you been really prepared to welcome a new member to your family for that long? You are still a student now, and have you thought about it when you are busy studying, taking exams, graduating, looking for jobs, moving to new locations, being married, having children, ......?
